I purchased this strainer basket to use as a stand alone unit with another brand’s pump. It is a poor choice for that type of application because it does not “stand alone”. It does not have a flat bottom, so it tips over like Humpty Dumpty. I’m sure it could be stabilized with some home-made supports and good PVC connections, but it would take a fare amount of finagling and put more stress on the PVC connections than I’d be comfortable with (anybody who’s ever taken the lid off a pool pump strainer knows it takes a little force even with the special wrench available for some strainer lids). That said, I did not take stars away for that. I was trying to use it for something it wasn’t designed for. Speaking of using it for something it wasn’t designed for, the flange/clamp outlet that has taken criticism in other reviews probably works great with the Sequence brand pumps it’s designed to be attached to.I took one star for the hokey lid design. It’s a two-piece unit that just makes reassembling it more difficult than it needs to be.I took the second star for value. I think, at roughly a hundred dollars, it could be better designed and that, unless it’s being used with the appropriate Sequence pump or the 2 inch ports are an absolute necessity (not likely), the Hayward strainer is a much better deal.Well made unit doesnt leakHave to watch out for the funky union fitting on the exit side needs have a better transition design the philip screw fastner on the union is a jokeInstalled and working for two weeks. Works as expected. No leaks after tweaking fittings. Catches large debris before water enters my filtration system. Easy to empty basket and clean once pump is turned off. Very pleased with this product.Great strainer attached to my new pond pump set up as a diy pre strainer and works great. The lid was a bit hard to take off at first but after mounting it that went away. Make sure you use sturdy brakets so it don't hurt the plumbing. I would recommend this to anyone needing a strainer for a koi pond .This was purchased as a replacement for a model that was 14 years old. It's amazing how improved the installation was from the older model. We are so glad we got the newer model. It works like a charm. The strainer Basket fill up fast I finally took mine out, with this basket being so small I was cleaning every two or three days. I only needed this to prime my system. so it works well for this.Used it but can’t get a good seal on the outlet end of the basket. It has a clamp style with screws connection instead of a threaded fitting. Sucks.Works well, although a one-way check valve is a must. The only con I have is the cover is a little hard to remove to clean out the basket.
