I had my original one for many years and it started breaking so I bought this as a replacement and it fits perfectly. Slightly different design than the original but I like it better. Well made.My 9 year old KitchenAid dishwasher has now gone through 3 of these things. Which is odd, because growing up I never recall my parents ever having to replace their silverware baskets. Not that I would've noticed, but replacing these things annoys me enough to complain audibly so I imagine my parents would have pissed and moaned as well.It looks like dishwashing manufacturers make these things with a weaker plastic that wears out easier over time. This makes silverware baskets a nice little profit center for KitchenAid & company. So it's a good basket that fits perfectly in my dishwasher. But it isn't going to last. That's just not in the cards.EDIT: I will now be purchasing my 4th silverware tray for my 12 year old dishwasher. At this rate I will have spent as much on silverware trays as I did on my dishwasher in about...oh, 15 more years.Glad to have found this replacement. We've had it a couple of weeks now and it seems sturdy and it fits fine. So far so good. Pieces of our original basket were breaking on the bottom. From other reviews I see that this problem is caused by the basket sitting so close to the heating element. I hope the new one holds up over time. The only negative is that this basket does not come with a fold down lid. I didn't know that since my husband ordered this, and I almost threw away the old basket along with that needed lid. If you order this replacement basket: KEEP YOUR OLD FOLDING LID.I also had the misfortune of having my Silverware holder for my Kitchen Aid break apart. It became so broken that we were down to only two spots where they weren't broken. We were only able to use the other baskets for bigger items that couldn't fall through. The top of this one with the closing lid is set up a bit different than the original one that came with our washer, and the plastic seems a little more solid. I am sure hoping it lasts longer. So far we are happy with this product. I was very glad to find it on here as well for a much cheaper price than what the appliance stores wanted for it.The basket works as designed.If you are replacing an old basket that is missing one or more of the plastic grid pieces from the bottom (i.e., it has holes in the bottom), you should be aware that these pieces have probably accumulated in the pump intake. This will result in a clog or at least a reduction in flow, which will further result in poor quality wash cycles, especially in the top basket.Find the video on youtube that will walk you through the steps to access the inlet and remove the little plastic pieces. It is a relatively simple task that will require a couple of torx screwdrivers.Factory part, perfect fit; a lot more expensive that it needs to be ($36). It's just molded plastic, Folks. But if your old one is brittle and falling apart, you have no choice. Unit comes with a folding, perforated "lid" over top of the silverware compartments. It's easier to place silverware in the basket if you remove this lid.This isn't rocket science. If you old basket has holes in it like mine did go ahead and get this. It appears sturdier than the old one.Arrived in an Whirlpool OEM box and was the exact replacement part for my Kitchen Aid dishwasher. It also came with the silverware door in the middle. Will have to see over time how well it holds up.I ordered this as a replacement for 8531233 which costs $30 more. It turns out it is the exact same basket without the plastic door flaps which I simply tranfered from the old basket to the new basket. Although $50 is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a plastic basket its better than paying $80 or more. This was the cheapest OEM basket I could find and it was delivered in an OEM Whirlpool box.Exactly like the one I was replacing. Band name item and perfect fit. I believe the dimensions listed were backwards but if you look up the product number elsewhere you can confirm the dimensions. Prompt shipping too.works just fine . did not come with the piece for the knives . If you are getting rid of your old one keep the knife divider .Good.
